The Storage Fit Guide

Renters & small spaces

Storage for renters, awkward corners and small UK homes

Some storage problems are not really room problems. They are pipework, low clearance, narrow walkways, tenancy rules or furniture that leaves one annoying gap. Start here when the layout is the problem.

Before you buy: small-space checklist

Measure usable space, not cabinet or frame size — pipes, hinges and door swings all reduce what fits

Check door clearance on both sides before buying pull-out drawers or deep units

Subtract 1–2cm from your measured clearance so storage slides without scraping

For renters, prioritise freestanding, over-door and tension-pole storage before adhesive options

Confirm all dimensions on the retailer listing before purchasing — listed sizes can change
