Many kitchen base units have a centre stile — a vertical divider between two doors. Measure the usable width on each side separately. Pull-out organisers designed for the full unit width will not fit through a door opening that is narrower than the organiser.
Standard kitchen wall unit shelves are 28–30cm deep. Base unit shelves are 40–50cm. Shelf risers and stacking inserts must fit within the depth and leave enough height clearance to the shelf above. Measure the gap between shelves at the narrowest point.
A pull-out basket or drawer needs the door to open fully before it will extend past the door frame. Measure the door opening width, not the cupboard width. For corner units, check whether lazy-susan style pull-outs can clear the cabinet frame as they rotate.
A centre stile is the fixed vertical strip between two cupboard doors on a wide base unit. It narrows each door opening by 2–4cm on each side. Pull-out baskets or drawers designed for the full unit width cannot pass through the door opening. Always measure the door opening width, not the total internal width.
Measure the internal width of the cupboard (between the side walls, not the door opening width), the internal depth from door face to back wall, and the clear height from the floor to the lowest fixed shelf above.
